MONEY MATTERS HOSTS 5TH ANNUAL WILLS & ESTATE PLANNING FORUM: PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS MOST
Tortola, British Virgin Islands – 18 October 2024 – MONEY MATTERS BVI (MMBVI), the financial literacy initiative under the BVI Financial Services Commission (the Commission), proudly announces its 5th Annual Wills & Estate Planning Forum. The free event will take place on Thursday, 7 November 2024, at 9:30 AM at the BVI International Arbitration Centre, 3rd Floor, Ritter House, Wickham’s Cay II.
This year’s forum, themed “Protecting What Matters Most,” aims to provide the BVI community with practical guidance on wills, estate planning, and asset protection. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from six leading legal and financial experts from prominent local firms. They will cover critical topics such as making your wishes known for end-of-life care, distributing assets, and ensuring the well-being of your loved ones in case of illness or death.
Managing Director and CEO of the BVI Financial Services Commission, Mr. Kenneth Baker, underscored the significance of estate planning in the current economic climate, stating:
"Financial planning is not just about securing personal wealth; it's about ensuring the stability and protection of future generations. By introducing our community to key financial tools and concepts, we are empowering them to achieve their long-term goals. Money Matters BVI continues to play a vital role in fostering financial education and raising awareness of the options available for personal and generational wealth planning."
The forum will also delve into the advantages of having a will versus using asset-holding companies to protect personal assets. Panel discussions will be led by experts such as Ms. Anthea Smith (Managing Partner at Sabals Law), Mr. S. Jack Husbands (Barrister, Lawton Chambers), and Ms. Rasheda Hodge (Official Receiver, Government of the Virgin Islands).
Additionally, the forum will feature insights from Mr. David Abendego (Managing Director at Harbour Chambers) and Ms. Jenelle Archer (Partner, O'Neal, Webster). Mrs. Kimberly Crabbe-Adams (Counsel, Harneys) will moderate the event.
Financial Literacy Coordinator at the Commission, Derecia Scatliffe-Thomas, remarked: "Estate planning is a crucial part of personal financial management that is often overlooked. We want to provide residents with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about the future of their assets and the care of their families."
