The British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission Announces the Appointment of the New Asia Representative - Press Release No. 2 of 2017 (24 October 2017)

Tortola, British Virgin Islands – 24 October 2017 – Today, the BVI Financial Services Commission (the “Commission”) announces that it has appointed Mr. Burton Chalwell as the Commission’s new Asia Representative.  Mr. Chalwell will replace Mr. Leon Wheatley who will return to the Commission’s headquarters in Tortola, and serve as a Deputy Director with supervision of the Compliance Inspection Unit.  Mr. Chalwell’s appointment was effective 9 October 2017 and Mr. Wheatley is expected to assume his new role 13 November 2017. 

As Asia Rep at BVI FSC (HK) Ltd., Mr. Chalwell will manage the delivery of services offered from the Commission’s office at BVI House Asia; and is the Asia Pacific liaison for BVI Financial Services licensees and regulators with a presence in the region. “Asia continues to be a key market for the British Virgin Islands and we are very pleased with the talent that the Commission has in the region and the services and expertise we can provide in Asia.  We are confident that Mr. Chalwell will be an excellent addition to the team.  We are also very excited that Mr. Wheatley will be coming back to Commission headquarters after a very successful stint in Asia and look forward to his continued service to the Commission and the industry,” said Robert Mathavious, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.

On his appointment, Mr. Chalwell expressed, "I am delighted to be given an opportunity to serve as the Commission's Asia Representative and will continue to support the Commission and the Government of the BVI in its efforts to strengthen existing relationships and to promote new investment into the jurisdiction from the Asia Pacific Region."
